Malene Daniels Beck

Malene was born and raised in Copenhagen. She discovered Danish traditional music at an early age, visiting old players in their homes and hearing the music at dances, summer schools and concerts.

Malene has played piano for dance music since the age of twelve. Performing with, among others, Viggo Balle Gade from Thy, Helge and Thomas Ingolf Sørensen from West Jutland, Malene has, like Tove, developed a strong knowledge, and a natural love for traditional Danish music and dance.

Malene graduated from the "rhythmic" program at the "Jutland Music Academy" in 1998. Since that time Malene has been an instructor at various music schools throughout Denmark, including the "Carl Nielsen Academy of Music" as the piano teacher in the Folk music department.

Malene is very active in Danish folk music circles. She is also the piano
player for the Irish set-dance group "Aarhus All Star Céilí Band". As
accompanist for numerous fiddlers and groups Malene is familiar with the dance repertoires of Ireland, Quebec and Cape Breton Island, on the east coast of Canada. In recent years Malene has visited Cape Breton several times to study the piano style unique to their tradition. Malene is also the bass player for the contemporary Danish group "Instinkt". Instinkt released their debut album in 2002.
